Budget Cuts: Update

The Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library is now joinging with many other libraries in a statewide advocacy to restore library funding to the state budget. Orange postcards are available to fill out to oppose the reduction in funding. On your next visit, please fill out an orange postcard at either the circulation desk of the children's desk. You can even add a message on the back if you'd like. Then we'll send all of the postcards together to legislators. For more information on the budget cuts, or to email your legislator please go to Save My Library NJ.

Robert B. Parker

I was stunned when I saw the memorial notice in the Arts section of yesterday's Times. Robert Parker is dead? When did that happen? I found the obituary in theWednesday paper. Although he was 77, his agent said that he was thought to be in splendid health. At least his fans will not have to go cold turkey. There is a Jesse Stone novel Split Image that will be published next month. You can learn more about Robert B. Parker from his web site http://robertbparker.net .
If you have read all of the Spenser novels and are looking for another detective series, my recommendation is to try the Elvis Cole novels by Robert Crais or take a look at Novelist http://web.ebscohost.com/novp/search?vid=1&hid=108&sid=c49d523c-9ff6-4a87-8a89-c564d239456a%40sessionmgr114. Novelist is a reader's advisory database. You can use it to find read alikes, books in a series or book discussion guides. It can be found in the EbscoHost tab on our web page.

Computer Assistance

Are you someone who needs to use the public computers to fill out an unemployment application or some other online government form? The reference staff can help you if you just need a little help. If, on the other hand, you have never used a computer before or aren't adept with the mouse, we have college students that work on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 4 to 6 and on Saturdays and Sundays who can sit and assist you. If you would like to make an appointment with one of these students, call and speak with the reference librarian.
